Story of Amiee D’maris Events

Established in 2013.

Amiee D'maris Events was created to continue what began in 2003 by Amiee D'maris and Peter Alan. Two bay area chefs that are truly passionate about local, organic, gourmet cuisine. This is the culmination of years of diligent work, catering hundreds of weddings and parties all over the bay area. We now come together to bring you a focused & polished product, the synthesis of all we have learned.

I started cooking for my family when I was six or seven years old. My sister says I would crawl up on the kitchen counter reading my mom's cook books and cook full gourmet meals. The joy of cooking was one of my first books. The pages smudged with my sticky finger prints, I still have it. My first real job at age 15 was in a restaurant as a prep-cook where I learned fast to keep up with the cooks on the line. I quickly moved up to be a line cook. In the summers I worked at a summer camp as a camp cook, eventually becoming the kitchen manager & Executive Chef, I was there for seven years. I studied to become a Waldorf Teacher in SF & I traveled throughout Europe and worked my way through Ireland and England, working in retreat centers and college kitchens as a chef while I studied poetry and creative writing. When I came home to Berkeley, California I met my husband Peter, who was also a chef. We very quickly fell in -love and opened our own catering company which we ran for ten years in the east bay area.

We decided to close our business after the downturned economy of 2008-2012. We had no idea where we wanted to go or what we would do. We were headed to the Caribbean to run a restaurant, but when that fell through we ended up moving to the wine country where I grew up, I wanted to be closer to my family. Coming back to my hometown of Sonoma was such a quiet blessing which was a nice surprise. The wine country offered the beauty and pace of life that became the soft ground to rest and rejuvenate and ultimately to open Amiee D’maris Events. Here we are! Having come full circle I am so happy to be back where I started doing exactly what I love with the people I love the most!
